A small Bhutanese company that plans every trip itself
Mystical Shangrila Travels is based in Thimphu. We are not a booking website or an overseas reseller. We plan your route, book your hotels, apply for your visa and send our own guides with you, so you deal with the same people from your first email to your last day.
How we work
Private by default
We don't run group departures. Every trip has its own guide, driver and vehicle, and the pace is set by you, not a schedule. If you want to spend another hour in a dzong courtyard or skip a museum for a long lunch in a farmhouse, you can.
One clear price
Our quotes include the visa, the Sustainable Development Fee, hotels, meals, guide, transport and entrance fees, with each item set out. There are no surprise supplements once you arrive.
Honest advice
If the dates you have picked fall in the monsoon, or a trek is too ambitious for the time you have, we will tell you. A good trip to Bhutan is usually a slower one, so we plan realistic daily distances on mountain roads.
Responsible travel
We work with locally owned hotels, farmhouses and homestays wherever we can. Our guides make sure visits to temples and festivals are respectful, and we follow Bhutan's leave-no-trace rules on treks. The SDF you pay goes directly to the government's healthcare, education and conservation programmes.

Why Bhutan feels different
Bhutan measures its progress by Gross National Happiness as well as by GDP. It is carbon-negative, its constitution requires at least 60% of the land to stay forested, and it limits tourism through the SDF to keep visitor numbers sustainable. Visiting here feels like being a guest, not a tourist, and we plan every trip with that in mind.
